2026 Fall Marden Judge Registration
To register to judge, please click on “Sign up” next to the date and time slots shown below. You will receive a confirmation email once you submit the form, and your name will appear on the sign up sheet. We will email judges the competition record and bench memo beginning on Monday, September 28.
Associate judge requests – Please email Charlie and Sonia after you register if you prefer to judge with a particular friend or colleague. Competition organizers will work to honor such requests.
Cancel/modify sign up – You may cancel or modify your registration up to five calendar days before the beginning of the competition. Judges wishing to cancel or modify their registration after this time should do so by contacting Charlie and Sonia no later than 48 hours in advance of their earlier registration.
If you have any other questions or issues with the sign up process or Fall Marden, please contact Charlie and Sonia at mootcourt@nyu.edu (with “Marden” in the subject line). Thank you for your interest in our competition!
By registering to judge Marden, you agree to the following rule from the 2026-2027 Rules of the Marden Competition:
Judges, both at the oral and written advocacy stage, should assess the case on its presentation by the advocates and not the judges’ propensity to decide the case on one side or the other before viewing the briefs or hearing the argument. Thus, all competitors should have an equal chance of prevailing prior to the presentation of the brief or argument. This rule does not forbid assessing the legal merits of an advocate’s case—quite the reverse. A substantive innovation in the theory of the case that persuades a judge that a particular side had more merit than the judge thought should be strongly rewarded and encouraged.
